Odeon Cinema Red Carpet
Transport for London were undergoing a program of highway improvements along the A1 corridor out of North London. Several areas of concern were highlighted long this route and Mooch commissioned to develop concepts for two of these areas.
The area at the front of the Odeon cinema was to be improved due to highway alterations and a possible new public space by this landmark building created. The red carpet concept defined a route from the crossings to the cinema doors and acknowledged the policy of de-cluttering the streetscape by removing guard rails and combining functions in the new spotlight/streetlight columns. The spotlight converges on the red carpet to highlight a star in the pavement outside the cinema doors. Passers by are invited to be part of a space that makes them celebrity. The 15 minutes of fame that we were all to have according to Andy Wharhol is now condensed to 5 minutes as the obsessive celebrity culture of today strives to make stars of us all.
