Memorial Park Gates
West Ham and Plaistow New Deal for Communities had a 7 year [programme to regenerate the local area and this included the Memorial Park area at the heart of the community. Mooch has commissioned to develop ideas for gates and signage. The gates needed to add drama and suggest the exciting design for the new building that was to be the community centre.
Working with the site constraints and the need to allow pedestrian and vehicle access Mooch produced a series of gate designs that used inflated steel pillows as the main module. These pillows were laced together and set in robust frames. The columns of pillows were placed far apart enough to allow surveillance through to the park and mitigate any ladder effect to discourage climbing. The plain mirror stainless option was followed by a series of designs that played with creating different focal points and an almost graphic effect. Public consultation on the ideas brought a very positive response for this innovative alternative to the standard park gates.
